Our Role

As governors it is our role to oversee the management of Cherry Tree Primary School by holding the school to account for the quality of education it provides and the education standards it achieves, setting the strategic direction for the school, ensuring all statutory duties are met and overseeing the budget to ensure money is well spent.

An experienced team

Our team of 12 governors are volunteers and have a wide range of different skills and experiences. The team complements and enhances the school leadership by providing support and challenge. This is achieved through regular meetings and visits to the school.

The full governing body meets at least once a term. The three sub committees, which focus on curriculum; finance and resources; and premises, health and safety; meet at least termly and report back to the full governing body.

Pupil engagement

Each governor also visits the school regularly to gain a greater understanding of the school community and see the achievements of the pupils. Every governor has been adopted by a class and makes regular visits to that particular class as well as, wherever possible, attending their class assemblies or any performances they are doing.  This ensures that each governor has a good understanding of how the school works and has the opportunity to engage with pupils and staff. A governor representative also attends the school’s Parent’s Forum, new intake evenings and other whole school events in order to ensure we have every opportunity to speak to parents and hear their views.

A supportive role

The Governors work in partnership with the Headteacher, Mrs Graham, and the staff – supporting them with their effective and efficient running of the school.

Cherry Tree Primary is an exceptional school where every child is valued and achieves their full potential. We want all our children to make excellent progress and to be fully literate and numerate, but we also want them to have life skills that enable them to ‘stand out from the crowd’. We believe that building self-confidence, adaptability, tolerance and resilience are crucial life skills that we need to foster from an early age.

Cherry Tree prides itself on a fully inclusive approach where every child is encouraged and challenged to be the best they can be. The governors, as a team, are committed to working with the head teacher and staff towards the continued success of the school.
