Job Title: Year 1 Class Teacher

Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent

 

Responsible To: Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team

 

Purpose of the Role:

To carry out the professional duties of a teacher in accordance with the Teachers’ Standards and under the reasonable direction of the Headteacher. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning to a Year 1 class, ensuring that all pupils are supported, challenged, and inspired to achieve their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 

Teaching and Learning
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and inclusive lessons in line with the National Curriculum.
  • Create a stimulating and nurturing classroom environment that promotes high expectations and positive behaviour.
  • Differentiate learning effectively to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND, EAL, and higher attaining pupils.
  • Use assessment effectively to monitor pupil progress and inform future planning.
  • Support pupils through the transition from EYFS into Key Stage 1.
  • Promote a love of learning through creative and engaging teaching approaches.
Pupil Progress and Assessment
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil attainment and progress.
  • Provide regular feedback to pupils and parents/carers on achievement and next steps.
  • Use formative and summative assessment strategies to ensure all pupils make good progress.
  • Contribute to pupil progress meetings and school assessment procedures.
Behaviour and Safeguarding
  • Establish positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
  • Maintain high standards of behaviour in accordance with the school’s behaviour policy.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of all children in line with statutory guidance and school policies.
  • Report safeguarding concerns promptly and appropriately.
Wider Professional Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, and external agencies.
  • Participate fully in staff meetings, training, INSET days, and school events.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school community.
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
